Beer Review: Goose IPA – Goose Island Beer Co.

Another IPA today with a new brewery for me in the form of Goose Island Beer Co. They are a Chicago based brewery who, as with many independent breweries, have since been bought out by one of the big players. In this case AB InBev. I feel like the Goose Island brand is one I’ve seen on the shelves for a while but never tried, so felt like it was time to pick one up.

The beer is amber in colour and incredibly clear. Aroma wise, the tropical notes you would expect from an IPA are there, but it almost smells a little like marmite. The beer itself has a good hop to and an initial punch of flavour. However, this very rapidly dissipates. As such there is very little on the finish, so once you’ve had your sip the beer sort of just stops.

A quick note on the can art: not the most exciting one I’ve seen recently but I suppose the logo is quite memorable.

Bit of a shorter review today which reflects the beer itself I think. The taste is good, it is a classic IPA but there is nothing interesting or innovative that makes you pause for a second after a sip. Each sip finishes as quickly as it began so there is not much to savour. I’d say it is the kind of IPA you’d recommend to someone who has never had one before. It’s not trying anything fancy, but what it has done, is done well.
